For the 2013 National Conference, JANM is pleased to present a thought-provoking, content-rich slate of multiethnic, multigenerational speakers, presentations, and activities. Close to 1,000 attendees of all ages and backgrounds from across the country will convene to remember, share, and connect with the remarkable journey of the Issei and Nisei within the context of the larger American story.

Conference Highlights


  • On July 5 and July 6, registrants can attend an exciting slate of breakout Sessions which are organized into five topic areas: Basic Intro, Speaking Up!, Dignity, Youth-Friendly, and Sessions in Japanese. In the late spring of 2013, registrants will be notified when the Sessions schedule is finalized. Check the Conference Updates or blog for the latest programming news!


  • To enhance the Conference experience, registrants will enjoy these on-site activities—the Expo and the Community Marketplace where registrants can gather, share, and reflect on the Conference, and a special screening of Farewell to Manzanar (ticketed event).
  • To ensure your visit to Seattle includes the present-day Seattle Nikkei community and its history, optional Bus & Walking Tours have been organized (ticketed event).
