Holly Yasui was born in Denver, the youngest daughter of Minoru and True S. Yasui. She attended public schools in Denver and the University of Colorado, Boulder, and received a master’s in Communications from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 1987 Ms. Yasui moved to Seattle to work at Seattle Community College; University of Washington; and with various community organizations as a freelance writer and graphic designer. She moved to Mexico in 1993, where she lives in an “eco-village” supporting a grassroots campesino (rural) training center called CEDESA (Centro de Desarrollo Agropecuario/Center for Agricultural Development).
