All programs are free for Museum members and free with admission for non-members, unless otherwise noted. Events are subject to change.
Advanced reservations are recommended for most programs as seating/space may be limited. Some programs may have separate reservation contacts. Please check program description. When making a reservation, email rsvp@janm.org or call 213.625.0414 at least 48 hours prior to the event. Include the name, date, and time of the program, as well as your name and the total in your party.
NEW: For all classes, workshops, and food tours, pre-payment is now required to hold your space. Please call 213.625.0414 or download the pre-payment form. Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance or no refund will be issued.
Little Tokyo Sushi Graze
This walk will introduce you to some of the many varieties of sushi. Each will be sampled during a cultural graze of Little Tokyo. The stops will highlight a different kind of sushi along with the unique history of the food and the neighborhood.$70 Members; $80 non-members, includes admission. Kidding Around the Kitchen
Kidding Around the Kitchen (KATK) brings a “hands on” cooking experience and lesson in which the kids actively participate in the preparation of recipes. The result of their cutting, measuring, cooking, and then eating their creations is more than simply a lesson in health. They get to see, touch, smell, and taste the fruits, vegetables, nuts, cheeses, eggs, meats, and other ingredients that they may never have previously seen in their raw form.

Halloween Sogetsu Ikebana Workshop for Beginners
Ikebana (“living flower”) is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Sogetsu Ikebana is a three dimensional artistic expression composed of flower and plant material arranged in a container.This workshop will introduce the student to the basic technique and style that are the foundation of many ikebana arrangements. Instructor Mikiko Ideno will teach you how to arrange a Halloween Ikebana.
$30 members; $35 non-members, includes admission, flowers, and supply rental. RSVP early, 10 students max.
Hibakusha Screening
Hibakusha is an animated drama featuring Kaz Suyeishi (Karin Anna Cheung), a 57 year old woman, who recalls her most vivid and horrific experiences as a 17 year old Hiroshima student during the morning of August 6, 1945 when the atomic bomb dropped on her hometown.This film is inspired to bring awareness to the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings in hopes that a nuclear tragedy like this will ever happen again. A Q&A with co-directors Steve Nguyen, Choz Belen, actress Karin Anna Cheung, and Kaz Suyeishi will follow the screening.
This project will commemorate the 67th Anniversary of the bombings and is dedicated to the Association of Hiroshima & Nagasaki A-bomb Survivors.
Densho Workshop/Educator's Open House
JANM is pleased to be partnering with Seattle-based Densho to host a very special workshop where educators will explore web-based primary resources and pick up new strategies for teaching about the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. This workshop will take place at JANM and is open to in-service and pre-service teachers, who will each receive a $100 stipend for participation. Relive history and learn about present-day Little Tokyo with National Museum docents. $9 Members; $14 non-members, includes Museum admission. Comfortable walking shoes and clothes recommended. Weather permitting.
