1994 Fellow

From his earliest portraits of homeboys and cholas up to his recent epic renditions of custom car shows, John Valadez has constantly depicted urban cultures in a strikingly realistic yet highly surrealistic manner. Included in the show are two pastel works by Valadez that depict his almost hallucinogenic tinged ethnographic eye.

Valadez is perhaps best known for Broadway Mural, a panoramic view of life in downtown Los Angeles. In 1991 he completed a mural for the federal General Services Administration in El Paso, Texas. He spent 1996-1998working on a major mural commission for the federal courthouse in Santa Ana, in Orange County.
