2000 Fellow

Lynn Aldrich describes herself as “a visual artist who loves text and ideas but makes sculpture.” Her work transforms the mundane, like garden hoses, kitchen sponges and plastic siding, into sculptures that recall a cresting wave or a coral reef—creating the sublime and exquisite from the profane. Here, Aldrich’s Designer’s Choice, an array of fabric swatches that reference animal hides, embody a collision between nature and culture, while Quench transforms the materials of a home improvement weekend project into a fluid arabesque frozen for our pleasure.

Her work has been shown in exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Prague and Florence, among others, and she holds an MFA from Art Center College of Design.
