Did you know that Tommy Kono won eight consecutive world championships (including two Olympic gold medals) in three different weight classes?

Dates of interest:
1944: Hawai'i born Emerick Ishikawa, who started a weightlifting club in the Tule Lake concentration camp, is the first Japanese American to emerge on the national weightlifting scene. He wins both Junior and Senior National Weightlifting Championships.
1948: Harold Sakata becomes one of the first of four Asian Americans on the U.S. team to win an Olympic medal.
