Did you know that President Theodore Roosevelt studied judo with Yoshitsugu Yamashita in 1904?

Dates of interest:
1903: Judo is introduced to the United States by Yoshitsugu Yamashita.
1933: Shizuo Osumi becomes the first Nisei woman black belt in Japan.
1940: According to a survey of judo clubs in Oregon and Washington, 13% of Nisei males study judo and about 5% achieve black belt status.
1964: Judo is introduced as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo games.
