Edward Ichiyama

442nd Regimental Combat Team

Edward Ichiyama volunteered for the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in March 1943 and was assigned to the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion. He served in Italy, France, and Germany. Mr. Ichiyama retired from the Social Security Administration in 1983, based in Honolulu. After retirement he practiced law for five years and has shared his wartime experience with numerous schools, universities, and other organizations. He has also participated in many exhibits and presentations sponsored by the Japanese American National Museum. Along with others, Mr. Ichiyama assisted in researching World War II Nisei veteran archival records of Distinguished Service Cross recipients who were eligible for upgrade to the Medal of Honor. As a result of the many who assisted in the research, twenty Nisei were awarded the Medal of Honor in 2000.
