Digital Marketing Associate









Position Summary:

The Digital Marketing Associate is responsible for assisting with uploading content to JANM’s website and various other websites. They will work closely with the Communications Production Manager, Marketing department, and other staff to add text and media using a CMS to create and edit pages on the website in both test and live environments, as well as provide support for other microsites. They will also assist with mass outreach emails and social media, especially to produce graphics and videos for campaigns.

Most of this work may be done remotely with some on-site time required. A minimum of three days per week on-site is required. This is a full-time position with set weekly days, but hours are flexible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Update content on existing pages and sections on, as well as expand content/sections such as venue rentals, Media Arts, online resources, etc., using a custom Drupal CMS. This includes working with other staff to compile text and media and arranging content on the web pages that is consistent with the overall museum’s and site’s style guides. 
  2. Work with marketing and other departments to organize and identify historical and contemporary images for use on, other microsites, outreach emails, social media, videos, and other projects. Use image editing software to format and adjust images as needed for optimal viewing online. 
  3. Assist with the creation and updating of various new microsites and special pages on—exhibitions, special events, special projects, NCPD, etc. 
  4. Migrate content from the previous site to the current site that are important for institutional history—older major project and exhibition microsites, online resources, etc.
  5. Assist with creating content for social media, especially images and short videos. Serve as back-up for social media postings.
  6. Assist Marketing team and other departments to set up Constant Contact outreach emails, clean email lists for non-existent, bounced emails, etc. 
  7. Assist with testing of new features, enhancements, and fixes on the site. Assist with updates, new content, and testing to support other JANM websites/microsites—JANMkids,, JANM Blog, etc. and other digital projects/apps.
  8. Compile metrics reports for websites using Google Analytics data.
  9. Staff members must be able to work with visitors of all ages to support the various events sponsored by JANM. Each staff member will be expected to work on a minimum of three museum-wide events per year:
    • JANM’s Gala & Silent Auction—(off-site) typically held in the Spring (April-May)
    • JANM’s Family Festival Day—Oshogatsu Festival (January)
    • JANM’s Family Festival Day—Natsumatsuri Festival (August)

Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Design, Marketing, or Communications preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


At least 1 year of experience developing web content using a CMS. At least 1 year of experience with image and video editing software, preferred Adobe Creative Suite. At least 1 year of experience with creating social media graphics for an organization/company. Willingness to learn and apply new skills. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented. Strong proofreading skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced team-environment, be a self-starter. Demonstrated commitment and flexibility in order to ensure a high level of quality service. Ability to adjust and provide appropriate action when unanticipated need arises. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture a plus.


Has excellent communication skills. Experience in writing or editing copy for websites, photo captions. Must be able to provide courteous and effective service to co-workers and volunteers. Ability to represent the Museum externally to the public and internally to staff and volunteers. Is able to read, write, and comprehend routine reports and correspondence, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals. Is able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group format. 


Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and Internet and web tools; Google Suite, MS Office, Google Calendar, Gmail, Slack, and Asana preferred. Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or other image editing software; familiarity with electronic image formats such as .jpg, .png, and .tiff and with image size/resolution requirements for Web. Experience with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign a plus. Proficiency with video editing software. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.

Desired: Familiarity with Drupal or other web framework. Ability to write and edit basic HTML. Familiarity with SEO. 


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Ability to act on own initiative, making consistently sound decisions. Must be able to comply with institutional policies and procedures. Perform successfully when juggling and re-prioritizing multiple assignments in a fast-paced, changing work environment. Is able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Reliable follow-through on assigned projects in a complete, well conceived and timely manner.
