Plane crash after mid-air collision between a military jet and Douglas transport aircraft on Pacoima Junior High School grounds during a special assembly in the auditorium for American Legion Award presentation in Pacoima, California, January 31, 1957. Includes Linda Shibuya receiving the American Legion gold medal from Russell Shiek of Post 659, Principal David Swartz announcing plane crash on school grounds, first aid given to injured student and plane propeller, seats and debris of field.

Twin Scorpion fighter jets from Northrop's Palmdale facility were engaged in routine "scissors interceptions" when one jet slammed into the wing of a DC-7B transport plane returning to Douglas Aircraft's Santa Monica plant on a routine test run. The jet pilot and the crew of the Douglas aircraft were killed. Three students on the ground were killed. (10.24.2007 cht)
