JANM PRESENTS TRANCENDIENTS COMMUNITY CELEBRATION: CHALLENGING BORDERS : New York Times bestseller and Pulitzer Prize winner Viet Thanh Nguyen to deliver keynote speechThe Transcendients Community Celebration: Challenging Borders, a free one-day event, kicks off on Saturday, March 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Japanese American National Museum.

The community celebration offers music, dance, art, speaker series, and hands-on activities along with artist Taiji Terasaki’s groundbreaking collaboration with the Japanese American National Museum, Transcendients: Heroes at Borders. The participatory exhibition honors heroes from Los Angeles and across the nation who are fighting against discrimination, prejudice, and inequality at our physical and social borders.

TRANSCENDIENTS: Heroes at Borders A Contemporary Art Exhibit by Taiji Terasaki : Artist Taiji Terasaki Pays Tribute to 100+ Heroes From the Arts, Inter-Faith, Refugee, LGBTQ+ Communities & Beyond In ‘Woven Stories’ Installation at JANM

Celebrated multi-media artist Taiji Terasaki is hard at work on his next exhibition at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), in remembrance of the 78th anniversary of Japanese American concentration camps in World War II. On February 19,1942 President Roosevelt signed an executive order that authorized the unconstitutional incarceration of American citizens and residents. TRANSCENDIENTS: Heroes At Borders will serve as a living memory of the Japanese American concentration camps, and as a tribute to activists from the arts, inter-faith, refugee, LGBTQ communities and beyond who continue the fight for democracy and justice for all.
