Day of Remembrance 2017: Unite to Uphold Our Civil Rights

On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which paved the way for the forced removal and incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast during World War II. This year’s Day of Remembrance commemorates the 75th anniversary of this historic miscarriage of justice, recognizing its continued relevance in today’s political climate and supporting civil and human rights for all.
2 p.m.: Indoor Program and Reception, including talks and presentations by Norman Y. Mineta, former US Secretary of Transportation and US Secretary of Commerce; Mike Honda, former US Congressman; representatives from local Muslim, Native, Latinx, Jewish, and African American communities; and musicians, poets, and spoken word artists.
3:30 p.m.: Outdoor Rally
No RSVPs necessary; seating is first come, first served.
Presented in partnership with Go For Broke National Education Center; Japanese American Citizens League–Pacific Southwest District; Manzanar Committee; Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress; Progressive Asian Network for Action; Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden; and United Teachers Los Angeles.
