The Democracy Center presents the Los Angeles premiere of Out of the Picture, the first feature-length documentary about the lives and work of art critics living through a precarious time for art and media. The film includes essential writers and thinkers like independent arts journalist Carolina Miranda who spent about a decade at the Los Angeles Times, The Times’ Christopher Knight, photographer Catherine Opie, and performance artist Ron Athey.
Following the screening, join a lively discussion about how to sustain and inspire the next generation of cultural writers and celebrate the Fellows of the Democracy Center’s Irene Yamamoto Arts Writers Fellowship. The fellowship provides unrestricted support to emerging writers of color who write about cultural criticism.
