KISHI BASHI

KISHI BASHI

Kishi Bashi is the pseudonym of singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter Kaoru Ishibashi. He has recorded and toured internationally with diverse artists such as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal. Ishibashi’s recent album and documentary Omoiyari (a Japanese word that means to have sympathy and compassion towards another person) is a musical journey about World War II Japanese American incarceration and postwar assimilation that explores how empathy—and a lack of it—shapes the quest for social equality.
