Welcome the Year of the Tiger with crafts, cultural activities, and performances—both virtual and in person!

  • Fun Oshogatsu and Year of the Tiger-inspired crafts, origami, and scavenger hunt
  • Live outdoor musical performances!
  • Online activities for the whole family
  • JANM Members Only reserved seating

Those who RSVP and scan their ticket at the JANM membership table at the Oshogatsu Family Festival will be entered into a drawing for a one-year JANM family/dual level membership.

 

As required by LA City ordinance, ALL VISITORS age 12 and older will need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative antigen or PCR Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to visiting the museum. Proof of vaccination or negative test may be in a paper or digital format, PLUS a photo ID. The vaccine requirement does not apply to children under 12. Masks are required for all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, except for children age two and younger.  LEARN MORE

MOCHITSUKI DEMONSTRATION

Making fresh mochi is a beloved Japanese New Year tradition. Join Kodama Taiko for their unique mochitsuki (rice pounding) demonstration, which incorporates taiko drumming, and enjoy delicious mochi samples while supplies last.

Two performances:

  • 12:30 p.m.–1 p.m.
  • 2 p.m.–2:30 p.m.

A fiery eclectic blend of world rhythm that travels the globe with Latin-Rock-Punk taiko beats and takes you right into the heart of Los Angeles.

Traditionally at New Year’s, stores in Japan clean their inventory of slightly imperfect merchandise and otherwise intact items missing packaging or with dented boxes in fukubukuro, or lucky grab bags. Starting on ____ a limited number of lucky boxes will be available at janmstore.com for only $25.
