Amid the growing instability in global security, the resilience of US-Japan relations has never been more vital to the Indo-Pacific region. JANM and the Japan America Society of Southern California present this free program that reexamines the future of this bilateral relationship, particularly in trade and security. Dr. Tosh Minohara, a Japanese American from California who chairs the Research Institute for Indo-Pacific Affairs, will provide an assessment of the current state of global affairs and offer insight into how to further strengthen this key alliance across the Pacific.

Bios

Dr Tosh Minohara

Dr. Tosh Minohara

Dr. Tosh Minohara is a professor of the Graduate School of Law at Kobe University and the chair of the Research Institute for Indo-Pacific Affairs (RIIPA). He is an expert in US-Japan relations, American foreign policy, international politics, and international security. In 2024, he served as editor of the Handbook of Japan's Foreign and Domestic Policies During the Decade of Abe. He has authored numerous books and essays and his academic achievements have been recognized with the Shimizu Hiroshi Prize and the Japan Research Prize. Most recently, he was a visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution Library and Archives at Stanford University. In 2019, he founded RIIPA and currently serves as its president.
