JANM Congratulates the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation on Being a New Smithsonian Affiliate

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) congratulates the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation (HMWF) on being a new Smithsonian Affiliate. Established in 1996, the HMWF preserves the original site of the Heart Mountain concentration camp in northwestern Wyoming and tells the stories of over 14,000 people who were unjustly incarcerated there during World War II through its world-class museum, the Heart Mountain Interpretive Center, and programming dedicated to teaching the stories and passing on the lessons to future generations.

“JANM congratulates the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation on this incredible accomplishment. Becoming a Smithsonian Affiliate elevates the HMWF’s work—their educational programs, workshops, professional development, and other opportunities—to a national level, connects them to a vast network of over 200 museums like JANM and other cultural and educational organizations in the US, Puerto Rico, and Panama, and aids the Smithsonian’s mission to foster public engagement, spark curiosity and learning, and embolden a deep understanding and betterment of our world,” said Ann Burroughs, President and CEO of JANM.
