The Japanese American National Museum Congratulates the Museum’s Governor, Richard Watanabe, on Being Named a AAAS Fellow

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) congratulates Richard Watanabe on being named an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) fellow. Watanabe is a professor of population and public health sciences at the USC Keck School of Medicine and is the associate dean for health and population science programs.

AAAS fellows are elected by their academic peers, and it is one of the most prestigious honors that can be bestowed on a US scientist. The honor recognizes excellence in research, technology, industry, and government, teaching, and communicating and interpreting science to the public. The newly elected AAAS fellows will be honored at a ceremony in Washington DC during the summer of 2023.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Richard Watanabe on this extraordinary honor. In a distinguished career marked by significant achievements, the acknowledgement of your peers is perhaps the ultimate validation. We are honored to have him serve as a JANM Governor and as a dedicated volunteer and docent of long-standing,” said Ann Burroughs, President and CEO of JANM.
